In Vitro Study Of The Antibacterial Activity of Diffrent Organic Extract Of Swertia Chirata Against Streptococcus Pyogenes
Abstract
Swertia chirata is a popular medicinal plant native to the Himalayan region and has been widely used as herbal
medicine in India and other parts of the world. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the antibacterial activity
of different organic extracts of Swertia chirata against the pathogenic bacterium Streptococcus pyogenes. The
antibacterial activity of methanolic, ethanolic, chloroform and benzene extracts was evaluated at doses ranging from
0 to 600 μg using the disc diffusion method. The zone of inhibition was measured in millimetres using a Vernier
caliper. The extracts demonstrated antibacterial activity against Streptococcus pyogenes, with variation in the degree
of activity among the different extracts and doses. The findings indicate that organic extracts of Swertia chirata
possess potential antibacterial activity against Streptococcus pyogenes and may warrant further investigation for
their antimicrobial properties.
